Lionsgate will distribute the action comedy Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, helmed for Miramax by Guy Ritchie. The movie with Jason Statham (F9)Hugh Grant (glass onion), Aubrey Plaza (The White Lotus), Josh Hartnett (Lucky number Slevin), Cary Elwes (rebellious moon) and Bugzy Malone (The gentlemen) will be released in the US on March 3rd.
Pic will compete with MGM/UARs at the box office during opening weekend Creed IIIdirected by and starring Michael B. Jordan and the horror thriller hunt them, kill them by Welcome Villain Movies. The story follows super spy Orson Fortune (Statham) who must track down and stop billionaire arms broker Greg Simmonds (Grant) from selling a deadly new weapons technology. Fortune and his team reluctantly team up with some of the world’s top agents (Plaza, Elwes, Malone) and recruit Hollywood’s biggest movie star, Danny Francesco (Hartnett) to help them with their global covert mission to save the world.
Surgery luck marks Ritchie’s third film for Miramax, on the heels of The gentlemen And anger of man and join the director Ungentlemanly Warfare Division on the upcoming Lionsgate panel. The studio acquired the domestic rights to this WWII pic starring Henry Cavill just before EFM this morning, as we first told you.
Ritchie directed Surgery luck from his script written with Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies (The gentlemen, anger of man), also produced with Ivan Atkinson and Bill Block. Miramax and STX Entertainment acted as co-financiers.
Upcoming Miramax films include Robert Zemeckis’ Here with Tom Hanks and Robin Wright; David Ayers activist The beekeeper with Statham; and Paul Giamatti of Alexander Payne Reteam The raid, which last year’s Toronto Film Festival sold to Focus in a record deal, we were first to report. A series adaptation of Ritchie’s action comedy is also in the pipeline The gentlemen with Netflix.
Lionsgate recently released titles including the action figure Gerard Butler Aircraft and the star of Jennifer Lopez shotgun marriage. Among those to be released by the studio next are Jesus Revolution (February 24), John Wick: Chapter 4 (March 24), Ray Romano’s directorial debut Somewhere in Queens (April 21) and the Judy Blume edition are you there god it’s me margaret (April 28). Comedy also comes from Lionsgate joy ride on the occasion of the feature film debut of Crazy rich Asians Writer Adele Lim, which as we previously told you, will have its world premiere at SXSW before hitting theaters on June 23.
