Chinese game release for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves in line with domestic release

Paramount/eOnes Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is the latest Hollywood film to hit China. The studio’s Weibo account broke the news Monday morning local time, noting that the adaptation of Hasbro’s iconic role-playing game Day and Day will be released in North America on March 31.

Paramount unveiled its 30-second Super Bowl commercial trailer on Friday D&D The action comedy stars Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, Chloe Coleman, Daisy Head and Hugh Grant. The film debuts with its world premiere on March 10 at SXSW.

It focuses on a group of unlikely adventurers who embark on an epic heist to recover a lost relic. Things go dangerously wrong when you associate with the wrong people.

Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley directed the screenplay, which they co-wrote with Michael Gilio.

Producers are Jeremy Latcham, Brian Goldner and Nick Meyer. Denis L. Stewart, Goldstein, Daley, Pine, Zev Foreman and Greg Mooradian serve as executive producers.

When the first trailer debuted at Comic-Con last summer, Grant noted that the film had “a Monty Python sensibility.”

Goldstein also teased at Comic-Con what fans can expect in the film, which is also included in the Hasbro Wizards of the Coast game: “There are also characters from the lore that will provide a runway in multiple films.”

After a shortage of studio titles in 2022, Chinese authorities recently increased permits and most importantly gave the green light to Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever And Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The first appeared last week, making for a likely poor turnout given the first run elsewhere that began last November and amid the ongoing Chinese New Year titles dominating the game. A better litmus test for the return of Marvel character films would be ant man 3 which opens next Friday (advance sales began today at the market, which, however, also has a large number of domestic films premiering on Valentine’s Day).

Further up the Hollywood platform are Warner Bros/New Line/DC’s Shazam: Wrath of the Gods Day and date on 17 March and Focus’ Mrs. Harris goes to Paris also on March 31 (the latter began its offshore deployment last summer).
