In 2009 and as part of the Marvel Noir universe, Marvel Comics publishers launched the first issue of ‘Spider-Man Noir’, a four-part mini-series created by David Hine, Fabrice Sapolsky and Carmine Di Giandomenico. The main character is a darker alternate version of Peter Parker and the story is set in 1933, during the Great Depression. This Spider-Man already made his theatrical debut in “Spider-Man: A New Universe”, where Nicolas Cage lent his voice, and although he has already appeared in the series “Ultimate Spider-Man” and “Avengers Assemble ” , will now jump to the small screen with a live action series which Sony prepares for Amazon Prime Video.

As reported by Variety, this live Still Untitled is about a grizzled old superhero in 1930s New York, but it seems that its protagonist will not be Peter Parker and that it will take place in his own universe, which will not be related to the rest of Sony’s projects or the MCU. In the comics, Spider-Man Noir has been bitten by a spider hidden in a stolen artifact, and a Spider God grants him classic superpowers: strength, speed, and agility, spider-sense, and the ability to produce and throw webs that spawn their hands.
The team is led by Oren Uziel, who will be the writer and the main executive producer of the series, since they will also play Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Amy Pascal. Uziel’s latest works include the screenplays for ‘The Lost City’, ‘Escape Room 2: Are You Dying to Get Out’, Mortal Kombat and ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’ and as director he has only one title: ‘Shimmer Lake’, a Netflix original film with Rainn Wilson.
More Sony projects for Prime
‘Spider-Man Noir’ is, for now, the second project that Sony and Prime Video are preparing together after signing an agreement with MGM+. In November last year they already announced the showrunner (Angela Kang) for the series ‘Silk: Spider Society’, starring a Korean woman who receives her powers by being bitten by the same spider as Peter Parker; but Sony’s plans with the Spiderverse don’t end there, as it controls at least 900 characters related to the brand, Tom Holland’s Spidey being, for now, the only one the company has lent to Marvel Studios.
