Of the many important things that make up a good war film, the action scenes are what many expect, and the momentum the protagonists have built up to now. Whether it’s a fight of epic proportions or a large-scale battle, the result is images that linger on the eye’s retina for a long time.

Director Francis Ford Coppolla’s masterpiece, and one of best war movies of all time, “Apocalypse Now”, has one scene that keeps giving you goosebumps. “March of the Valkyries” set against the backdrop as helicopters fly through the air of Vietnam, set the perfect tone for an essential film in the history of cinema.

1917

Sam Mendes had one too more epic scenes than a war movie with the spectacular ‘1917’. This is a tape of two soldiers crossing into enemy territory during WWII to deliver an important message. But it’s the moment when the protagonist has to cross the battlefield, when the intensity explodes to a new level. Available on Netflix.

Dunkirk

Even though many criticize Christopher Nolan, what he accomplished in ‘Dunkirk’ is, without a doubt, one of the most epic scenes of all time in a war film. It is the moment of the evacuation, in which the Allied soldiers desperately try to escape from the beach, while the fighters keep them at bay. Available on Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video.

Fury

Despite being harshly criticized for ‘The Suicide Squad’, David Ayer proved to be a competent director with ‘Fury’, war action movie starring Brad Pitt, Logan Lerman, Jon Bernthal, Michael Peña and Shia LaBeouf confirming a small team of soldiers, mounted on a tank, fighting an epic battle in fields where only bullets are heard. Available on Netflix, Star+, Claro and Lionsgate+.

To a man

Andrew Garfield stars in this film based on true events, directed by Mel Gibson, “Until the last man”. The story follows a man who wanted to participate in World War II, but never shoot or touch a gun, instead saving 75 soldiers on the island of Okinawa, a moment that is simply epic on screen. Available on HBO Max and Amazon Prime Video.

Save Private Ryan

And finally, it could be none other than Steven Spielberg with one of the best war movies in history, ‘Saving Private Ryan’. Starring Tom Hanks, the epic moment is a recreation of the Normandy landings, or better known as “D-Day,” a moment that caused PTSD for thousands of veterans. Available on Amazon Prime Video.
