The new Fraser reboot has revealed its destination and will take place in Boston, Massachusetts, where the character Frasier Crane originated in the series Greetings in 1984. NBC’s hit spin-off Fraser moved the character to Seattle; in her finale, Frasier made the quick decision to fly to Chicago to pursue a love interest, rather than head to San Francisco, where he awaited a new TV job.

But as Paramount+ confirmed Wednesday morning, the new version of Fraser will follow the character “into the next chapter of his life as he returns to Boston, Massachusetts, with new challenges to face, new relationships to form, and an old dream or two to finally fulfill.”

The first episode will be taped this Friday in front of a live studio audience in Los Angeles. Legendary TV director James Burrows will direct the first two episodes of the new series. Burrows has a long history with shows. He is one of the co-creators, executive producers and directors of Greetingsand also directed the original Fraser pilot, “The Good Son,” in 1993. He went on to direct several episodes of that show’s early seasons.

Burrows directed most of Greetings episodes, including the 1984 episode of Greetingsthe season 3 premiere “Rebound,” which introduced Frasier to the world for the first time.

Kelsey Grammer will be joined in the reboot by co-stars Jack Cutmore-Scott as Frasier’s son Freddy; Nicola Lyndhurst as Frasier’s old college buddy turned college professor, Alan; Toks Olagundoe as Alan’s colleague and head of the university’s psychology department, Olivia; Jess Salguerio as Freddy’s roommate Eve; AND Anders Keith such as Frasier’s nephew David.
