With Alice time traveling, how do you think time travel and interacting with her mother as a teenager will bring her closer to her mother today?
Sadie Laflamme-Snow: I think on some level it will give her a greater understanding of why her mother is like this and make her realize that mothers are people too. But I also think it makes her very nostalgic for the girl he knew when she mothered her at 15. That kind of happy, free-spirited, uninhibited… is kind of Alice and Kat’s boss. He takes the lead and really takes Alice under his wing with her and things like the new girlfriend. I think the more he falls in love with the life he’s had in the past, the more he wants to have it in the present. So even though she’s learning to understand her mother, I think there’s also that feeling of, what happened? Why are we like this?

Do you think Alice would reach a point where she doesn’t want to go home today?
Sadie Laflamme-Snow: Obviously. I think there are times when the last thing you want is to go back to 2023 and be in that house with your family discussing and dealing with your parents’ divorce. Her life in the past keeps her so distracted from putting down roots in the present, that it’s hard for her to make friends, develop a relationship with Del, and all that different stuff. So I think she sometimes she really wants to stay, and the only person keeping her in check is Elliot. He’s making sure that, hey, if you stay too long, an alarm will go off. You can’t scare your mother like that. Little does Alice know the impact her disappearance for periods of time has on her mother and grandmother and how hard it is for them. They’ve been through something like this before and she doesn’t get it. Elliot really keeps her on track.

There are so many questions about Jacob and what happened to him. Will we have definitive answers about Jacob at the end of the season?
Sadie Laflamme-Snow: The audience will learn as Alice learns about her family history. There is nothing Alice knows we are hiding from people. She’s having this pivotal year in her family’s life with them, and with that we’ll have answers about what happened to Jacob. Where is he at? Why did it happen? And when you travel back in time, what can you do to interfere with the disappearance or not interfere with the disappearance of someone in your family who, when it happened, tore your family apart? So this is what I will say about the disappearance.

Will Alice put on her detective hat for a while and try to ask questions about what happened to Jacob?
Sadie Laflamme-Snow: Yes, absolutely. I think when he gets to Port Haven, he’ll know that his mother hasn’t spoken to his grandmother in 20 years. She is very hard on her mother. She’s like, what’s wrong with you? Why are you bringing me here? This sucks. She begins to realize that there’s more to it and that her family has been having a really hard time, but she’s not sure why nobody talks about it. Why, when something terrible happened to your family, did they break up? Why didn’t they get together and take care of each other and lean on each other? He wants answers to that because he wants everyone to come together and care for each other. He also just wants to find answers about the time travel game. Can it interfere? Can you do anything to stop this? Does she really want it? Would she exist? Would people still know each other? Would the world still exist whether she interfered or not? She can? He can not? These are all things we will be exploring in the season.

From the movies and TV shows I’ve seen, when you mess with the past, it can still affect the future. Is there any danger in his travels to the past? When you mess with the schedules, it can get confusing.
Sadie Laflamme-Snow: Yes. I will say that things that happened in the past have absolute consequences in regards to Alice’s time travel. Living with these consequences can be very difficult. It definitely comes out for Alice. At the same time, because she has Elliot to implement all these ideas and theorize about time travel, she thinks deeply about these things. She’s protecting her and trying to help her travel back in time without completely destroying the family, destroying how things went and also helping her deal with what she’s into and what she’s not.

Elliot is the only person Alice can really take things from, especially everything that goes on in her life. She is learning about past and present versions of him. What will your relationship look like in the future? It seems like he’s more of a mentor to her, but he’s also discovering her feelings for her mother, which complicates things.
Sadie Laflamme-Snow: Alice really knows him as a teenage friend. When she realizes who he is today, it’s like they’re picking up where they left off. They have this budding relationship in the present day that is completely separate from the relationship that Kat and Elliot had as childhood friends and later into adulthood. You get the feeling that Elliot hoped Kat would come back to Port Haven and remember him. I won’t spoil what happens between the two. It’s not my place. But I will say that I think it would be hard for anyone, like any teenager, to picture their parents with a new love interest.

Also, that this love interest is someone the teen has their own friendship with. I think this might be a bit challenging for Alice. We all know what happened when Rachel’s news broke. She’s working on it, but she really wishes her parents could be together. I think that would be difficult for her, especially considering how much she relies exclusively on her budding relationship with Elliot.
