This year the live-action Winnie the Pooh film arrives in Spanish cinemas, but it is a very different version of the character than usual: Pooh and his faithful friend Piglet are now bloodthirsty psychopaths. When Christopher Robin leaves for college, Pooh and Piglet feel betrayed and abandoned, so they decide to hunt him down. Along the way, more than one person will suffer the wrath and wrath of those who were once a lovable teddy bear and piglet.

When ‘Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey’ was announced, it didn’t take long for the film to become a sizable talking point on social media. Danielle Ronald, one of the actresses who star in it, shared with Yorkshire Live her surprise at the media coverage of the film since it became official: “I thought it would get some attention, but not in the way it did. It has been featured in all the newspapers and magazines around the world. It’s kind of crazy, I didn’t expect anything like this. It’s crazy, Winnie the Pooh running around and killing people.”
But his surprise at how viral the slasher has become isn’t all, Ronald adds that part of the film’s creative team received death threats for developing ‘Blood and Honey’: “The director and producer got a lot of emails saying they should die, the worst you can imagine. Then they say, ‘It’s an abomination!’ People have told me I’m ruining their childhood.” Despite what this kind of comment may be scary, the actress thanks the haters of ‘Blood and Honey’ for all the indirect promotion they do to the film: “We got a lot of hate, I won’t lie, but The haters made the movie what it is because everyone is talking about it.”
The team in charge
In early 2022, Disney lost the rights to the character’s original work and it fell into the public domain. At that time, production began on ‘Blood and Honey’, a film directed and written by Rhys Frake-Waterfield, the director responsible for other slashers such as ‘Firenado’ or ‘Rise of the Loch Ness’. The most curious thing is that in the film there is no trace of Tigger, another of Christopher Robin’s soft toys, and it is that the character appeared for the first time in the book ‘The House at Pooh Corner’ in 1928, two years after The first collection of stories has been published and its image rights are owned by Disney until 2023.
The actors under the mask of Pooh and Piglet are respectively Craig David Dowsett (‘The Area 51 Incident’, ‘The House That Zombies Built’) and Chris Cordell (‘The Curse of Humpty Dumpty’, ‘HP Lovecraft’s Monster Portal’). For his part, Ronald plays one of the friends of a group that will be the victim of the fury of Pooh and Piglet ‘Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey’ does not have a release date in Spain, but distributor Vertex 360 has confirmed it will arrive this year.
