‘The Last Of Us’: The viral frog that jumps on the piano in the second chapter was not in the plans

The second chapter of “The Last of Us” gave us some of the most memorable moments. While it has its share of action and drama, for many fans their favorite part lasts only seconds: it’s the frog sitting quietly at the piano in a flooded hotel. The frog is about to jump and because of this it gains momentum, making the keyboard play. This curious moment dazzled fans, spawning numerous memes and illustrations of the animal on the instrument. However, this was not quite the idea that Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin had in mind.

“The frog on the piano wouldn’t have been… if the bird on the piano had done its job!”Druckmann wrote on his Twitter page. “I guess everything happens for a reason”. In the tweet, the co-creator of the series includes a behind-the-scenes photo of a bird on the same keyboard, with a frog in front. “And before anyone thinks what it’s not…it’s a fake frog that the bird was supposed to eat…which it never did!”.

Followers of the series are in love with the frog who, in the urge to jump, plays the piano. Some say it will be their next tattoo, while others opt for a more removable option: “Where can we buy piano frog merchandise?”writes a user. “And when will the piano frog get its spin-off?”. One thing is certain: the pianist frog has already become one of the emblems of the series, although there are still many more to come. The third of eight episodes of “The Last Of Us” can be watched Monday, January 30 on HBO Max.
