Carol Welch is leaving the Odeon Cinemas Group.
The cinema chain’s managing director for Great Britain and Ireland and commercial manager for Europe has resigned after six years.
She is going to be CEO of AF Blakemore, a major UK retail and food distribution company.
Odeon decided to return its commercial management to an independent position after their departure. Chris Bates, commercial director UKI & Europe, has been promoted to chief commercial officer. This expands his current role as European Commercial Director and also makes him a member of Odeon’s Executive Committee.
The appointment of a new chief executive for the UK and Ireland is in the “final stages”, the group said, adding that it would “provide further information once the position is filled”.
Mark Way, Managing Director of Odeon Cinemas Group, said: “While we are very sad to see Carol go, we are very happy for her and I would like to congratulate her on everything she has achieved at Odeon over the past six years, and thank her for her passion, dedication and commitment to our colleagues and guests Carol has made a significant difference to our business both in the UK and across Europe and we wish her well in her new role.
“I would also like to congratulate Chris on his well-deserved promotion to Chief Commercial Officer. Chris is a very experienced commercial director and has worked with Carol for a number of years.”
