When the 95th Academy Awards unveiled their nominations on Tuesday (January 24), the Best Picture category included some anticipated nominees (The Fabelmans, The Banshees of Inisherin), some big-budget surprises (Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar: The Waterway) and some indie darlings (Triangle of sadness, Tar). One of the pleasant surprises was women talking, by Sarah Polley adaptation of Miriam Towes’ novel of the same name. Unfortunately, what hasn’t been so surprising is that Sarah not Get nominated for Best Director.

Now there were no assistant directors trying to get me to sit on his lap, no group of men standing around to gauge how I looked with a particular item of clothing. He could decide what he thought was important to say, like filming a woman without making her sexuality a focal point without context. Jian was charged with four counts of sexual assault stemming from allegations by three women. The judge later ruled that Gomeshi was not guilty due to a lack of evidence to prove Ghomeshi’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
“There is no other evidence to determine the truth. There is no tangible evidence. There is no DNA. There is no such thing as a ‘smoking gun,'” wrote the judge, per The Guardian.

In her memoir, Sarah detailed how Terry Gilliam created a dangerous environment at munchhausen, especially for a child actor. “I love Terry Gilliam movies,” he told IndieWire. “I refuse to think of him as a monster. I don’t think he is. I think he screwed up a lot and didn’t take responsibility for it, and that sucks. But he also had great qualities and did a wonderful job. I just feel like I’m interested in having a conversation with him and hearing his perspective on what he saw. I would expect you to hear mine.
