The American Bar Association says CALL OF CTHULHU is their favorite TTRPG

The world of tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs) has been flooded with discussions, disappointments, howls at Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and more regarding the leaked changes to the Open Gaming License (OGL). We covered the topic in several ways, including my paragraph-by-paragraph breakdown of WotC’s statement regarding the backlash. During this time, many other TTRPG companies have made various announcements that the community loves. Paizo and other companies have launched the Open RPG Creative License (ORC), Chaosium has put many of their starter sets on sale for just $1, Wil Wheaton shared that his favorite TTRPG outside of Dungeons & Dragons is Fantasy AGE (one of my personal favorites) and the American Bar Association has released a statement in support Call of Cthulhu.

That’s right, the American Bar Association, a voluntary association of lawyers and law students, has taken sides in the TTRPG debate. On Facebook, they shared Linda CodegaThe original post by broke the news of OGL 1.1 and briefly talked about the implications, but then they said they prefer Chaosium Call of Cthulhu! I adore this! What’s even better is their reasoning. They say their love for Call of Cthulhu is because in the game “players can assume the roles of heroic lawyers (among other things), and where ability to speak Latin and legal knowledge can be more powerful than a Tarrasque. Just like in real life.” It’s nice to know that the American Bar Association has good taste.

If you haven’t played Call of Cthulhu yourself, it’s one of the starter sets available for just $0.99 right now via DriveThru RPG (affiliate link) and it’s a lot of fun. Our Anna Williams he even shared a review for the starter set and having been a part of those games I can confirm that the game is a blast.
