British actor Julian Sands, star of titles such as ‘A Room with a View’ and ‘Warlock the Witcher’, lHe has been missing since last Friday, January 13, around 7:30pm. His trail was lost when he went hiking Mount San Antonio in Southern California, the highest peak of the San Gabriel Mountains at just over 10,000 feet. According to Deadline, San Bernardino County authorities have been searching for the 65-year-old actor for days and have released a statement explaining that “Due to bad weather and alpine conditions, the search was difficult and the use of aerial resources was limited over the weekend.”

The search for Sands has been complicated by severe weather conditions in those mountains over the past month, in which up to 14 rescue missions were carried out by the county police: “These rescue missions have been for lost, trapped and/or injured hikers. Unfortunately, in the last 4 weeks, two hikers have not survived after falling and hurting themselves”. There are strong winds and storms in the area, and the snow has turned to ice, making hiking very dangerous. Although the sheriff’s department ground staff responded promptly to the missing person report, the mission had to be aborted Saturday night due to avalanche risk.
Cassian Elwes, a film producer, confirmed the news of Sands’ passing via Twitter:
I have known since Friday that my friend Julian Sands disappeared on Mt Baldy. I am devastated. A close family friend who was an adventurer in everything he did. I said many prayers.
