I have a trailer here for an upcoming indie horror comedy satirical film titled Pound cake. The film is about a psychopath who roams the streets of New York City and kills straight white men and nobody cares.
The film comes from the director Onur Tukel (Catfight, Summer of Blood, Applesauce, The Misogynists), and is a slasher film with political speeches. The films made by Tukel are all full of commentary, and there is no doubt that this will cause a stir among people.
The director spoke about the film, saying it was inspired by classic 1980s slasher films, and said, “In a slasher film, the villain kills someone every eight or nine minutes and there’s a climax where the killer is revealed and/or shipped.” He went on to explain that other inspirations include Spike Lee’s Summer of Sam because “David Berkowitz’s murders happen in the background as multiple narratives unfold throughout the film.”
Bloody-Disgusting states that “Tukel wants to make sure it’s 100% clear that Poundcake is a satire.” He said, “It’s pretty obvious what he’s satirizing.” Here is the full synopsis:
In New York City, however, nothing is unspeakable. Many people in the bustling metropolis have something to say about it, especially podcasters, who use their platforms to voice opinions about the serial killer and his victims. Some think victims are getting what they deserve. Aren’t straight white men responsible for most of the world’s problems? They run Fortune 500 companies that pollute the environment. They have run countries that have started devastating wars. They have built a system of capitalism that is racist and oppressive.
Some think the serial killer isn’t real and that the news outlets fabricated the murders to garner sympathy for white people. Also, who owns most of the corporate newspapers and titles? It’s not blacks or Asians or Arabs. And since people are finally holding straight white men accountable for centuries of oppression, this would be the perfect excuse for them to play the victim instead.
Some think it’s all a fucking joke. A serial killer targeting straight white men? Who cares? It was about time the shoe was on the other foot.
But that’s the kind of negativity the serial killer feeds on. It makes it stronger. The more vitriol there is towards straight white men, the more bloodthirsty he becomes. If the people of New York don’t put their bitterness aside and embrace a more positive mindset, they may never stop the killer, whom cynics have dubbed “Poundcake!”
Yet life goes on. And in New York, people are dealing with their own dramas. As Poundcake continues his butchery, there are millions of people just trying to get through another day. In New York, however, everything is connected. Straight white men may be the only ones losing their lives, but everyone else is losing their humanity.
