It’s official! Atomic Monster is Blumhouse’s campy techno horror film M3EGAN it’s getting a sequel! Universal Pictures has greenlit the titled film M3GAN 2.0and will hit theaters on January 17, 2025.
It was also announced that Akela Cooper will write the screenplay and Allison Williams And Violet McGraw they will reprise their roles. A director hasn’t been announced yet, but the first film was directed by Gerard Johnstone, and he’s expected to return. James Wan And Jason Blum they are producing.
Blum previously spoke of a possible sequel saying, “After seeing the film for the first time, we had a feeling that a sequel could actually work. So, we broke our cardinal rule and started talking about a sequel before the movie even came out. I felt so optimistic that we started entertaining a sequel earlier than usual.
Johnstone was previously asked about his enthusiasm for a sequel and said, “How can I not be? Now that the movie is done and people are embracing it. There are so many ideas we had and facets of M3GAN’s personality that we wanted to explore. I absolutely think there is more to say. And I know M3GAN would have more to say. I’d like to make another one. I hope soon, while still fresh in everyone’s mind.
There are no details on what the sequel will entail, but it will be fun to see how the creative team continues the story. One thing we do know for sure is that M3GAN’s AI survives in Gemma’s pet droid. What do you want to see from the sequel!?
