Academy Award nominated and recently Emmy and Golden Globe winning actress Amanda Seyfried (Mank, Bad Girls, the Miserables) was not present at last week’s Golden Globes fashion show. Although she took home the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Anthology Series or a Movie, for her role in The abandonmentthe actress was not present and viewers were told it was because she was “deeply in the process of creating a new musical”.

It has now been reported that Seyfried is teaming up with the Emmy-nominated actress Evan Rachel Wood (Thirteen, Western world, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story) to develop a musical adaptation of the 1991 cult classic Thelma and Luisawho acted Susan Sarandon And Geena Davis and took home the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
The musical project has been in the works since at least 2021 with the screenwriter of the original film, Callie Khouriattached and writing the book with Haley Feifferas well as an independent songwriter Neko case creating the score. Scott Delman is the producer. Reports in 2021 found that the theater director Cullmann trip (Six degrees of separation) was also on board to direct the musical adaptation.
Looks interesting. I would not have been as interested without these two actresses involved, as well as the original writer and musical talent involved. I think this has the potential to be good. We will let you know more as the project progresses.
