The film will welcome back DSU character Martin Schenk, played by the actor Dermot Crowleyas well as newcomers to the cast, which include Cynthia Erivo (Bad times at the El Royale, Harriet) And Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings, Planet of the Apes), and in a recent interview with Total Film (via GamesRadar), Serkis sat down to talk about his villainous character, murderous millionaire David Robey.

“When I first read the script, I almost wanted to throw it in the trash and take a shower. I don’t think I’ve come across anything this dark in a long time. And I thought, ‘Actually, try to Actually, to this point in the world, in time and in my life, do I want to go down this particular rabbit hole of something that is so hard to figure out in humanity?'”

Robey has dealt with Luther before and been ignored. He now he uses technology as surveillance, uncovering secrets that allow him to manipulate others. Luther Creator Neil Cross, he admitted in the same interview that all of his monsters are what he personally fears. He explained:

“Robey really stems from this tension between morality and ethics. True morality is the kind of behavior you exhibit when you know no one is watching. But we’ve succumbed to a lot of that private behavior on the semi-private Internet forum shame, the things we think we are ashamed to think about, people who would have lived isolated lives but who may never have expressed their desires or anxieties – or interests, shall we say? – find community I am terrified of the idea that someone, in fact, he’s watching.

But however wide our canvas, it’s always going to be this very particular feeling that the monster might come and get you next. In a strangely Freudian way, I have invented a modern Arthurian knight-errant who can come and slay these dragons for me.”

Can’t wait to see how this final Luther the story takes place. I think I should go back and binge the series in preparation again. The Luther the series is streaming on Hulu and the film will be released on Netflix in March.
