Warner Bros. says it’s done with canceling movies and TV shows

Warner Bros. has had a crazy 2022 after being taken over by Discovery, followed by a string of movie and TV show cancellations. There was a lot of confusion and frustration with the decisions that the CEO made David Zaslav and his executive team were doing.

Some of the big cancellations included Bad girl And Scoob!and then there were shows like Western world And The Time Traveler’s Wife which have also been closed. In addition, many shows have been removed from HBO Max. Westworld, The Nevers and Raised By Wolves will move to ad-supported streaming services, while others, including several hundred episodes of Looney Tunes And The Flintstoneshave been removed completely.

Well, CFO of Warner Bros. Discovery Gunnar Wiedenfels has now announced that they are done with canceling movies and shows and are now trying to grow the business instead of gutting it. He recently shared at Citi’s 2023 Communications, Media & Entertainment Conference, per Variety:

“We took some time to make sure we did it right. For some titles, we found new homes elsewhere. That’s why it took six or seven months. , we’re done with that chapter.”

It is explained that following Discovery’s acquisition of WarnerMedia, the company had to cut costs by $3 billion. By the end of 2022, it had risen to $3.5 billion, which led to more cuts.

But they’re done with that chapter and they’re trying to move forward and focus on building the company and a lot of that will include what James Gunn and Peter Safran are planning for DC Studios.
