Rian Johnson is at the peak of his career at this point, having just released his second film in Knives out murder mystery franchise. We know more films are on the way, per Johnson’s deal with Netflix, though in addition to the recently released second film, Glass onion: a knife-edged mysterywe don’t know what the next films will be like.

Johnson recently chatted with Netflix’s Tudum and offered a surprising idea that he’s been seriously considering: a Knives Out/Muppet crossover movie:

“It’s a joke that I thought was pretty brilliant, and I ended up actually giving it [it] some serious thoughts. As much as I take the crime genre seriously, I take the genre of a Muppet movie seriously.”

I honestly think this sounds amazing. The Muppets are known for their clever humor and a Knives outwhodunnit-style would be a no-brainer for this star-studded cast the movies are known for. But unfortunately, it appears that Johnson has been pursuing the idea and is not moving forward. He continued:

“I think those two things have very different rules. You can have a Benoit Blanc mystery that features the Muppets, but they’re going to feel out of place. Or you can have a Muppet movie that Benoit Blanc is in, but it’s going to feel like a Muppet movie. I wouldn’t compromise with either one. And I feel that to get it right and make it work, you would have to make a choice and compromise with one or the other. If I ever made a Muppet movie, I just want to make a great Muppet movie.”

I’d like to see that happen, but with Johnson trying to develop Knives out 3 in addition to a Star Wars trilogy, it looks like his slate is full for the foreseeable future.
