Here’s a recent comment about Marvel’s She-Hulk: Advocate series that is sure to ruffle some feathers. Many Marvel fans questioned the accuracy of the show comparing it to the comics it was based on, but the She-Hulk comic book writer Dan Slott he has a very different opinion, and claims that the series is “the most comic book-accurate series” that Marvel has made. He said:
“Anyone who says the @SheHulkOfficial TV show isn’t ‘compared to the comics’… I’m the one who has written more issues of SHE-HULK than anyone else. I’ve read every single comic of every run of #SheHulk. And I’m saying, for the record, it’s the MOST comic book-accurate show in the MCU.
An example of where that wasn’t the case is the origin story because the series definitely changed that. In a follow-up tweet, Slott also fired at those who disliked the twerking scene in the series, saying:
“People arguing the twerking scene in #SheHulk wouldn’t have happened in the comics… Byrne had She-Hulk jumping rope in a bikini. I had her karaoke and dance and party so hard it was causing structural damage to Avengers Mansion. Is this the hill they want to die on?
Now, I’m a huge fan of the She-Hulk comic book series, but I felt the series missed the mark. It’s weird how that works. Here we have the guy who knows She-Hulk inside and out as a writer versus the fans who have read his work on She-Hulk and the work of others. It’s interesting to see how opinions differ.
It’s hard to argue with the guy who wrote She-Hulk, but then I don’t understand why I loved the comics but was disappointed with the series. I even watched it a second time and liked it even less. I guess while the show might be “accurate,” it just isn’t executed as well as the comic series. What do you think about all this?
She-Hulk: Advocate is now available to stream in its entirety on Disney+.
Whoever says the @SheHulkOfficial The TV show wasn’t “comic-accurate”…
