Jason Blum offers an update on the crossover film HAPPY DEATH DAY and FREAKY

Blumhouse horror franchises Happy death day and Capricious ended up being super fun movies, and last year, Happy death day star Jessica Rothwho plays Tree in both films, said he believed it would be beneficial for the two franchises to collide:

“I think that’s absolutely the way to go because, as you said, [Kathryn Newton’s Butcher in Freaky] he embodies so much strength, power and twisted badass in that role. I was so lucky to see him opening weekend, and he has such fun and wild performances from both Kathryn and Vince [Vaughn]. So I agree with you that it definitely has to be a Tree versus Millie showdown. And maybe Vince can make a cameo as the scream queen because she gave us scream queens a hard time. She did a really great job.”

After that comment, fans wanted to see this crossover happen, then a photo popped up in Oct. at the Halloween ends premiere with producer Jason Blum with Jessica Rothe and Capricious star Kathryn Newton. This photo managed to make fans hope for even more!

Then the director of the films, Christopher Landonhe said he thinks of them as existing in the same universe saying:

“I think they exist in the same spiritual universe, so to speak. I think I could easily see Tree and Millie get together and go, ‘Well, you won’t believe what happened to me!’ Because I think tonally they’re related, I think thematically they’re related in a weird way. And yeah, I think it’s definitely an easy, easy buy.”

Well, today we have an update on producer Jason Blum’s potential crossover, and that’s not what fans are hoping for. While speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Blum was asked about the crossover and whether it was actually possible, and this was his response:

“Freaky Death Day. I hate to say it, but your Freaky Death Day dreams are a little further away than they were even a few months ago. So I wouldn’t have high hopes, but I’d also say anything is possible.”

Now, while a crossover of these franchises isn’t happening any time soon, Blum and Lambert have been working on developing a third Happy death day movie that would be completely insane. So I hope it at least happens!
