‘Uunchai’: South Asian streamer ZEE5 Global to star Amitabh Bachchan on January launch date

EXCLUSIVE: South Asia-focused streamer ZEE5 Global will release Sooraj R. Barjatya’s first film in seven years on January 6, 2023.

ZEE5 acquired the streaming rights for the film, which also stars Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, in November. It is already in theaters in India and will be launched in over 190 territories on ZEE5 Global next month.

Uunchai is director Barjatya’s first film since 2015 blockbuster Salman Khan Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and is described as a “heartwarming friendship story”.

Produced by Rajshri Productions in association with Mahaveer Jain Films and Boundless Media, it follows the journey of three older friends, Amit (Bachchan), Javed (Boman Irani) and Om (Anupam Kher), who decide to trek to Everest. Base camp to fulfill the wish of her late friend Bhupen (Danny Dengzongpa).

Uunchai is a seven year long journey of passion, hard work and most importantly love and after a successful run at the box office it will now stream on ZEE5 from 6th January so I appeal to all our fans to celebrate the new year starting with this film, which contains a heartfelt ode to friendship,” says Barjatya.
