Jonathan Majors explains the key to Kang and talks about the comparisons to Thanos

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be released on February 17, 2023, the Marvel Studios film that, In addition to starting the new year for the franchise, he will be in charge of ushering in Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In it, Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and Wasp (Evangeline Lilly) will face Kang The Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), a character who promises to be the new big challenge of the UCM after the farewell of Thanos.

Jonathan Majors explains the key to Kang and talks about the comparisons to Thanos

In an interview with Nerdbunker, Majors revealed that his main motivation with Kang is to give the character complexity and depth: “I think my goal with Kang, as with every role I play, is to make him as universal and human as possible. I think we’d be lucky if these later stages had a great villain that allowed the audience to swing to applause and boos.” Kang The Conqueror is supposed to be an antagonist with a lot of presence as well as a big threat to the MCU in general terms, not just a hero or heroine in their individual project, which is why it didn’t take long to compare the role that will play the character of Jonathan Majors with Thanos, the most important villain of the MCU to date. Majors talked about these comparisons, but first wanted to praise the work of Josh Brolin, actor who played the Mad Titan: “What Josh Brolin did so well with Thanos is that he tried to make him as three-dimensional as possible to understand him (the audience) and he really believed in it. That’s why I think how bad he (Thanos) is is morally ambiguous. And I also think the more villainous and anti-hero you are, the deeper your build should be.”

As for the comparisons between Thanos and Kang, Majors said in a previous interview with Cine Pop that he understands them, but at the same time they are complicated because the context of each character is very different: “It’s hard to say. I think Thanos was an incredible villain. We got to this point thanks to the great work of Josh Brolin. I understand the comparisons between Thanos and Kang, but they are completely different worlds. My story is different, Kang is different. He’s going to be very different.” On the power of Kang and if he will reach that of Thanos, the actor limited himself to saying: “I’ll let the movie prove it.”

bad in the long run

Unlike most of the antagonists Marvel Studios has portrayed in its films, Kang’s looks and prominence will find its way into more than a single project. Jonathan Majors’ character will be a big challenge to Ant-Man and the Wasp in “Quantumania”, but the villain is growing up and will also be the main threat in “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty”, a story in which a new group of Avengers will unite to stand up to him. Also, let’s remember that a multiversal variant of The Conqueror has been the mastermind behind all the problems in the “Loki” series, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the character matters in season two. In the absence of knowing whether or not we will enjoy his presence on multiple occasions, we already know Kang’s tour of the MCU will be much longer and more comprehensive than usual for antagonists.

“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania” will be released in theaters on February 17, 2023.
