The queer horror-thriller graphic novel Party and prey is getting the big screen adaptation from Legendary Entertainment and AfterShock Media. Patrick Brice (Creeping) was tapped to direct from a script by Rob Formann (iZombie).
The graphic novel was written in 2021 by Stephen Orlando and Steve Fox, and is billed as a social horror thriller with a bold genre twist. It tells the story of Alan, a rich and elderly gay man, who meets a confident and attractive young man named Scott in a nightclub. Their chemistry leads them to end up at Alan’s house, where the men’s dark secrets are exposed and they spend a night together neither of them expected.
AfterShock Media and Legendary will produce the film adaptation alongside Lee Kramer, David Sigurani and Jon Kramer, with Orlando and Foxe executive producing and Max Zupanovic serving as co-producer.
Orlando said of the deal:
“From our nightmares to reality, in the best possible way! Here we are in a moment with PARTY & PREY that we never expected, but couldn’t be more excited about! This was a story that made its way from the beginning, first from my mind and from Foxes, but also from those of Alex Sanchez, Juancho! and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. And, of course, AfterShock! I couldn’t be more proud of this book – its lens, its action, its horror, and its depiction across the board. We created the comic we wished were in the stands, and now I couldn’t be more honored and excited for the world to see it on screen!
Fox added:
“Creating PARTY & PREY with Alex, Juancho, Hass, my colleague Steve, and the AfterShock crew was a taboo thrill of its own, an opportunity to tell a violent horror story rooted in the gay community, without the its edges smoothed to facilitate consumption. I can not wait to see P&P interpreted in a new medium to be discovered for a completely different audience”.
