BOOM! Studios is coming out with a new color-shifting horror comic limited series, Neighbors. Written by Jude Ellison S. Doyle with the artist Letizia Cadonici and colorist Alexander Santoro, the story sounds incredibly creepy. There will be a total of only five issues in which to tell this story. Here is the official synopsis:

When Janet and Oliver Gowdie move to a quaint mountain town, their daughter Casey becomes part of a horrific chain of events that reveal their neighbors are anything but what they seem. Soon, a creepy older woman named Agnes Early becomes fixated on Janet and Oliver’s other daughter, 2-year-old Isobel.

It becomes clear that it’s impossible to know who to trust… or who is still human…

It definitely sounds like a nightmare scenario for any parent. In fact, that’s the point, as Doyle explains:

I’m so excited for NEIGHBORS. It’s a story about what scared me as a child, what scares me as a parent, and the dread that darkens queer and trans people who are raising families in 2022… . I sincerely hope you’ll walk in and see what’s inside.

Sounds like an interesting metaphor. I personally have a really hard time with horror that has to do with kids, especially young kids, so I’m not sure I’ll read it. But if I could handle it, I would definitely read it because the artwork looks beautiful, which can make the story even creepier. You can pick up the first issue of The Neighbors in March 2023 in comic shops, at BOOM! Studios webstore and digitally.
