Newlyweds Emma Roberts and Cody John have been spotted getting ice cream in Los Angeles, California, during their first public sighting since tying the knot at his family's estate in Sun Valley, Idaho. The 35-year-old bride and her 36-year-old groom stepped out on Sunday dressed down in casual summer attire.
Following their ice cream run, the couple was later seen hauling a vacuum cleaner box and a picnic basket full of clothes hangers back in the city.
Wedding Ceremony and High-Profile Guests
Roberts and John officially tied the knot during a creek-side ceremony on July 25, celebrating their nuptials after four years of dating and a one-year engagement. The wedding took place at John's family estate in Sun Valley, Idaho, bringing together close family and friends.
The star-studded guest list included Roberts's famous aunt Julia Roberts, alongside Hollywood stars Demi Moore and Sarah Paulson.
The former child star enlisted her five-year-old son, Rhodes Robert Hedlund, to walk her down the aisle rather than her estranged father, Eric Roberts. Rhodes is Roberts's son from her previous relationship with her ex Garrett Hedlund.
Father Eric Roberts and Family Tension
Her father, 70-year-old Oscar nominee Eric Roberts, was absent from the Idaho wedding. He was still abusing cocaine when he left Emma's mother, Kelly Cunningham, when the future actress was only seven months old. The father and daughter have not been pictured together since 2004.
Speaking to Page Six on July 27, Eric Roberts publicly commented on his daughter's nuptials and his absence. "I love my daughter, always have, always will," he told the outlet. "It is perfectly wonderful for her to celebrate however she wants, with whomever she wants."
Despite his public statement, an insider told Radar Online last Tuesday that the actor is privately struggling with the exclusion. "Eric is trying to act like it's no big deal, but everyone knows he's devastated and trying to save face," the insider revealed. "It seems harsh that Emma would leave him off the list altogether and a lot of people are blaming Julia for failing to have his back when he needed her most."
Upcoming Film and Television Projects
The honeymoon will be short-lived as Roberts prepares to return to work next month. According to Deadline, the nepo baby is scheduled to begin filming her role as turn-of-the-century loner Alice Lincoln in director Stephen Cognetti's witchy horror film, A Body In The Woods.
In addition to her upcoming horror film, television audiences will soon see Roberts reprising her role as Madison Montgomery in the 13-episode 13th season of Ryan Murphy's popular horror anthology series American Horror Story. The new season, titled AHS: 13, is scheduled to premiere on September 24 on FX.
