Elkhan Ibragimov Warns Processed Meat Increases Cancer Risk

Oncologist Elkhan Ibragimov has warned that processed meats and alcohol are among the primary dietary products linked to an increased risk of cancer. Writing on his Instagram page, the medical specialist explained that while no single food item directly causes the disease, long-term dietary choices significantly influence overall health outcomes.

Ibragimov advised people to consume processed meat items as rarely as possible. He specifically named sausage, bacon, ham, salami, and frankfurters, explaining that these products are not simply meat because their manufacturing involves salting, smoking, and chemical preservatives.

According to the doctor, processed meat is classified as a human carcinogen and is associated primarily with a higher risk of colorectal cancer. Colorectal cancer affects the colon or rectum, which make up the lower portion of the human digestive system.

Health Hazards of Alcohol and Other Foods

The oncologist identified alcohol as another major trigger for oncological conditions. He stated that alcoholic beverages increase the risk of multiple types of cancer at the same time, including cancer of the breast, bowel, liver, esophagus, oral cavity, and pharynx. From an oncologist's perspective, no safe dose of alcohol has been established, Ibragimov emphasized.

He also categorized sugary sodas and red meat as potential dietary hazards when red meat is eaten regularly in large quantities. Red meat includes traditional meats such as beef, pork, and lamb.

The physician stressed that cancer risk develops over many years. He noted that individual susceptibility depends on overall diet, body weight, physical activity levels, alcohol intake, smoking, and other lifestyle factors.

Bowel Cancer Misconceptions

The advice aligns with earlier comments from oncology surgeon Ildus Mukhametov, who detailed common misconceptions regarding bowel cancer that prevent patients from seeking timely medical care. Mukhametov highlighted the widespread belief that bowel cancer always causes severe pain as one of the most dangerous errors.

Ibragimov holds the academic title of Candidate of Medical Sciences, an advanced postgraduate degree awarded in Russia for scientific research in medicine. He published his warnings on Instagram, a service operated by Meta Platforms, which is recognized as an extremist organization and banned in the Russian Federation.
