Ecuador Signs $1.2 Million Coconut Deal in Esmeraldas

The Ecuadorian government signed an agreement on Aug. 6, 2026, providing $1.2 million in non-repayable funds to reactivate coconut farming in Esmeraldas.

The signing took place at the Luis Vargas Torres Technical University in Esmeraldas. The initiative will be carried out through the Vice Ministry of Peoples and Nationalities of the Ministry of Labor and Human Development.

Using a bioeconomy and sustainable production approach, the investment aims to recover coconut crops and create new opportunities for farming families. According to the ministry, the project will allow producers to diversify their income, reduce reliance on a single activity, and strengthen their ability to handle future challenges.

Funding and Community Impact

Minister of Labor and Human Development Cynthia Gellibert said delivering concrete responses across all cantons of Esmeraldas is vital for the administration. She stated that the funds reaffirm President Daniel Noboa Azín's commitment to boosting local economies and show that the government delivers results rather than promises.

Producer organizations will design their own subprojects to receive the allocated resources. The funds are non-repayable and carry no interest, ensuring the financing directly addresses the specific needs of each community.
