Coffee drinkers need to follow just two simple rules to make the drink work for their health rather than against it, according to endocrinologist Zukhra Pavlova, who shared the advice in her Telegram channel.
First, Pavlova said, moderation matters. She specified that no more than four cups a day should be consumed, noting that most research shows the cardiovascular and nervous system benefits stop at that threshold.
Second, the doctor stressed that only black coffee delivers those benefits. She said that sugar, syrups, honey and other additions turn the drink into a high-calorie dessert that can lead to fatty liver disease.
Separately, dietitian Alexander Burlakov has pushed back on a common online claim that coffee triggers insulin resistance. Burlakov said the opposite is true, arguing that coffee actually lowers the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, a finding he said is backed by various tests and studies.
