The 12th Docker International Documentary Film Festival will take place in Moscow from September 2 to September 13, organizers announced in a statement to Gazeta.Ru.
The festival will hold screenings at the October Movie Center in the Russian capital. The program features more than 80 documentary films from 30 countries, including Australia, Afghanistan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Brazil, Guatemala, Germany, Denmark, Egypt, Israel, India, Indonesia, Iran, Spain, Italy, Latvia, Lebanon, Mexico, Monaco, Mongolia, Nepal, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, the United States, Turkey, the Philippines, and France.
Organizers said most of the participating entries have already premiered at major international film festivals, such as Venice, Rotterdam, Thessaloniki, Guadalajara, and IDFA in Amsterdam.
Festival Program and Sections
The event brings together international feature-length and short film competitions. Specialized categories include Doc Therapy, which addresses mental health; Doc Station, focused on Russian documentary cinema; Docker Art, presenting films on artistic subjects; and a new experimental program titled Docker Punk. The schedule also includes special events and professional panel discussions.
Spanish director Cristina Rodriguez Paz will open the festival with her feature debut, Even If We Are Islands. The film presents a personal study of loneliness, memory, and human relationships.
Main Competition Lineup
Twelve full-length documentaries will compete in the festival main competition. Selected titles include Sunny Cove by Ido Weisman from Israel, Boca Vieja Village by Yovegami Ascona Mora from Mexico, At a Memory's Distance by Morteza Ahmadvand and Firouzeh Khosrovani representing Iran, Italy, and Norway, Paykar by Davood Hilmandi from the Netherlands and Afghanistan, Her Territory by Kallol Mukherjee from India, Berone from Turkey, and Bulacna by Leonor Noivo representing Portugal and France.
The main competition also includes Lunch by Denis Pas from Guatemala, Winter Has Come by Sayyad Imani from Canada, France, and Iran, No Shadow of Weakness by Frédéric Geffroy Rashid Khafaga from France and Saudi Arabia, and On the Edge. From a Road Diary by Sergei Karandashov and Maria Kosinova from Russia. Director Yulia Kiseleva's latest work, In Search of Sensory Deprivation, will serve as the closing film.
