According to the report, certain foods deliver a steady supply of long term power, whereas refined alternatives trigger a rapid spike followed by a sharp energy slump that complicates routine tasks.

Energy in the human body comes directly from calories supplied by macronutrients, which consist of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Additional micronutrients and dietary components assist the body in absorbing these macronutrients, transforming them into cellular fuel while curbing hunger, a primary driver of low energy levels. The report noted that consuming higher amounts of these supportive nutrients allows individuals to build greater overall endurance.

Dietitian Jana DiMaria explained that carbohydrates serve as the body's primary fuel source.
