Demi Lovato will return to play Mitchie Torres in Camp Rock 3, 18 years after the premiere of the first film in the Disney Channel franchise.
The singer and actress will make a special appearance in the upcoming installment, despite having initially been announced solely as an executive producer for the project.
The return of Lovato represents one of the major surprises of the new movie, as Mitchie Torres was the breakthrough role that launched her career in 2008. The original Camp Rock turned the performer into a prominent Disney Channel star and established a franchise that continued with Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam in 2010.
Lovato will reunite within the franchise alongside Joe Jonas, Nick Jonas, and Kevin Jonas, who are returning as Shane Gray, Nate Gray, and Jason Gray, the three members of Connect 3. The Jonas Brothers are also serving as executive producers on the film.
In addition, Maria Canals-Barrera will return as Connie Torres, Mitchie's mother, reinforcing the narrative connection between the third entry and the original two movies.

The story of Camp Rock 3 begins when Connect 3 loses the opening act for their upcoming reunion tour. Facing this setback, the group returns to Camp Rock in search of a new musical star who can join them on tour.
The arrival of the band triggers a competition among the new campers, who compete for the opportunity to perform alongside Connect 3. Rivalries, friendships, and romances will once again take center stage, maintaining key elements that defined the original films.
The cast for the new installment is led by Liamani Segura and Malachi Barton. They are joined by Lumi Pollack, Sherry Cola, Hudson Stone, Casey Trotter, Brooklynn Pitts, and Ava Jean, alongside returning members of the original cast.

Veronica Rodriguez is directing Camp Rock 3 from a script written by Eydie Faye. Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers are executive producing alongside Tim Federle, Betsy Sullenger, Spencer Berman, and Gary Marsh, with Jamal Sims handling the choreography.
Lovato's return carries particular significance due to the impact Camp Rock had on her early career. The 2008 original film became one of the biggest hits in Disney Channel history and stood as the network's second most-watched original movie at the time of its release.
The franchise continued two years later with Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, which became Disney Channel's most-viewed movie of 2010. Together, the two films have accumulated more than 535 million viewing hours.
