Actor Daniel Radcliffe is in talks to return to the Harry Potter franchise in the role of Lord Voldemort for a new television series produced by HBO, according to entertainment news source Culture Cave on X.
If the report is confirmed, Radcliffe would embody the chief villain of his former character after starring as the central wizard for a decade in the original movie series. However, network HBO has not officially confirmed the actor's involvement, and negotiations remain preliminary with no final deal signed.
Radcliffe rose to global stardom as a child actor when he was cast as Harry Potter in the movie adaptations of the fantasy books. Lord Voldemort, also known as the Dark Lord, stands as the main antagonist throughout the story, seeking to conquer the magical world and defeat Potter.
Former stars support new cast
The reports follow earlier developments involving original cast members reaching out to their successors. On March 30, British actor Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the movie series, gave his contact details to young actor Lox Pratt, who has been cast as Malfoy in the HBO series.
Felton assured Pratt that he is always available to offer advice, lend assistance, or provide a supportive shoulder as the young actor takes over the role. Felton portrayed Malfoy across all eight feature films, portraying Potter's primary student rival at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Adaptation of first book
Streaming service HBO Max released the official trailer for the first season of the Harry Potter series on Wednesday, September 2. The debut season will serve as a direct adaptation of the first book in the series, titled The Philosopher's Stone.
The upcoming show is planned as a long-term television project designed to adapt the full series of fantasy novels in greater detail for streaming audiences. HBO has not yet announced a formal release date for the premiere season.
