AFL star Dan Houston and his partner, Channel Seven weather presenter Tyra Stowers, are expecting their first child together in March, a baby girl.
The Collingwood defender and Stowers shared the news on social media on Sunday, posting a video of themselves relaxing together in a park while holding pink balloons to reveal they were having a daughter. They captioned the clip: "We can't wait to meet you."
Houston told the Herald Sun that becoming a parent had always been part of the plan and something the couple both wanted to do in life. He said their shared love of dogs and children had made the decision an easy one, adding that they both loved boxers and both loved kids.
Stowers, who works as the 7News weekend weather presenter, confirmed she was four months pregnant. "I'm feeling good now. All the scans have come back perfect, everything looks great. I love work and I'll be there until I can," she said.
She also said she had been caught off guard by how quickly her pregnancy had begun to show. "I saw a photo of myself when I was seven or eight weeks and thought I was massive then. I feel like in the past week or two I have started to show!" she said.
Both quotes were given to the Herald Sun, a Melbourne newspaper that covers the AFL extensively, including Collingwood, one of the city's most heavily supported clubs.
How Dan Houston and Tyra Stowers met
Stowers revealed in March that she and Houston were dating. She told the Herald Sun that she and the 29-year-old Magpies defender had bonded over their shared love of dogs, and in particular their boxers.
"We bonded over our boxer dogs, would you believe?" she said, laughing. Stowers, who regularly posts photos of her boxers on Instagram, said the relationship had also turned her into a Collingwood supporter, despite hailing from Perth, Western Australia.
"It's been great," she said. "We are in a really good place. I'll now be a Collingwood supporter!"
Tyra Stowers' broadcasting career
Stowers is a journalism and public affairs graduate of the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane. She spent two years at the Nine Network, including a stint with its 9News bulletin, before joining the Seven Network in 2024, where she now delivers weather forecasts during Seven's weekend news bulletins as part of the 7News team. She has also worked for Fox Sports Australia, a subscription sports broadcaster, and served as a guest producer for Sky News Australia, a 24-hour news channel. Seven and Nine are two of Australia's largest commercial television networks and run rival national news bulletins that compete for the same audience each evening.
Dan Houston's AFL career
The AFL is Australia's premier professional Australian rules football competition, made up of 18 clubs from six states around the country. Houston, who stands 186cm tall, was drafted by Port Adelaide, nicknamed the Power and based at Adelaide Oval in South Australia, in the 2016 AFL Rookie Draft, the pathway competition clubs use to recruit developing players outside the main national draft.
Playing for the South Australian club, he established himself as one of the competition's most consistent defenders, making 168 appearances before moving to Collingwood in 2024.
Collingwood, nicknamed the Magpies, is one of the Australian Football League's oldest clubs, having been founded in 1892. Based in Melbourne, the club boasts one of the competition's largest supporter bases and won the AFL premiership in 2023, the season before Houston joined from Port Adelaide.
