‘Crystal Lake’ Friday the 13th Prequel Series Coming to HBO Max

The Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake will stream on HBO Max in Spain and other European regions, following a deal between Warner Bros. Discovery and the platform. The eight-episode series, produced by A24, is expected to launch on the platform later this year.

Created by Brad Caleb Kane, who also serves as writer and showrunner, the series follows Pamela Voorhees, a single mother struggling to recover from the drowning of her son Jason at a local lake nearly a year earlier. The arrival of two strangers with an interest in her past sets off a mystery that unsettles the town and casts doubt on the protagonist’s true identity.

Emmy-nominated actress Linda Cardellini leads the cast as Pam Voorhees. William Catlett plays Levon Brooks, the local police chief. The cast also includes Devin Kessler as the officer’s journalist sister, Cameron Scoggins, Gwendolyn Sundstrom, and Callum Vinson as young Jason Voorhees.

The series was filmed in New Jersey. Directing duties are split across three blocks: Michael Lennox handles episodes one through three, Celine Held and Logan George direct episodes four through six, and Quyen Tran closes the season with episodes seven and eight.
