A crocodile dragged 28-year-old Mexico City resident Irving Mauricio into the ocean while he was resting on a hotel beach in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
ABC News reported that the reptile crawled out of the sea on Friday, August 7, at around 6:00 p.m. before attacking Mauricio on the waterfront directly in front of the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort and Spa in the state of Jalisco.
Emergency rescue crews searched for the man throughout the night after he was pulled into the water. Search teams discovered his body on Saturday morning, August 8, approximately 300 metres from the shoreline.
Resort safety measures and official response
Management at the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort and Spa stated that warning signs are posted across the beachfront to alert visitors to potential hazards. Hotel officials noted that staff carry out regular night patrols along the property and display red flags to warn beachgoers when conditions present danger.
The hotel administration added that resort employees receive specialized training for emergency situations and that safety regulations are subjected to regular reviews.
Puerto Vallarta is a prominent resort destination situated along Banderas Bay on the Pacific coast of Mexico.
