Wholesale retailer Costco in Japan displayed a Porsche 911 sports car directly inside its Kadoma store in Osaka during a special July promotion.
The display ran from July 13 to July 26, 2026, in partnership with dealership Porsche Center Kita Osaka. Automotive publication Supercar Blondie reported that the showcase was part of an ongoing corporate effort to connect wholesale club members with luxury car dealers.
Shoppers at the store were able to view a Porsche 911 Carrera GTS positioned on the main sales floor. The vehicle features an engine with a displacement of 3,591 cubic centimeters that produces 485 horsepower.
The author of the Supercar Blondie report noted that seeing a high-performance sports car inside a wholesale warehouse appeared surreal, considering that customers usually visit the store to buy bulk food and household goods.
Costco Wholesale Corporation is an American multinational company that operates membership warehouse stores selling bulk food, appliances, and home goods. Porsche AG is a German luxury sports car manufacturer, with the 911 model serving as its flagship rear-engine sports car. Osaka is the third most populous city in Japan and a commercial hub in the Kansai region.
Wholesale floor vehicle display
Supercar Blondie reported that the Osaka display was not an isolated marketing campaign. Costco's Japanese division has previously collaborated with vehicle dealers, including a 2019 exhibition featuring Porsche cars at the Costco Makuhari store.
The arrangement operates through the Costco Members-Only Car Purchase Support Program hosted on the retailer's Japanese website. The program allows members to contact participating dealerships and complete their vehicle purchase directly at the showroom.
While Porsche vehicles are not sold directly off the store shelf next to milk or laundry detergent, Costco assists members in organizing the purchase of high-end sports cars. Dealerships participating in the program for 2026 include Porsche Center Shiga, Porsche Center Naka-Osaka, and Porsche Center Kita Osaka. Members who register through the portal and purchase an eligible Porsche receive a Costco Shop Card containing a bonus.
Electric Macan scheduled for next showcase
Costco Japan plans to host its next vehicle exhibition from September 14 to September 27, 2026, at the Costco Higashi-Omigawa store. Visitors at the upcoming event will be shown an electric Porsche Macan rather than the 911 model.
Supercar Blondie noted that while Japanese Costco stores have not converted into standard auto dealerships, the displays bring shoppers close to browsing a luxury car while picking up groceries. The Macan is Porsche's compact crossover vehicle line, which includes all-electric battery powertrain options.
Tesla flood drive and miniature Bentley model
In other automotive news reported by Ukrainian news agency UNIAN, a video posted on the discussion forum Reddit showed a Tesla Model 3 driving through a flooded street in Ukraine. The footage caused surprise among American journalists as the vehicle navigated a deep puddle that had stopped other cars.
The Tesla Model 3 was able to drive through the deep water because its electric powertrain has no engine air intake, while its battery and electric components are protected against water intrusion. Tesla Incorporated is an American electric vehicle manufacturer based in Austin, Texas.
UNIAN also reported that a buyer acquired a scaled-down Chinese replica of the Bentley Bentayga SUV for $3,100. While the external styling closely resembles the original British luxury vehicle, the replica is significantly smaller. The interior features three display screens but lacks true luxury materials, and the vehicle uses a low-power engine under the hood. Bentley Motors Limited is a British luxury car manufacturer headquartered in Crewe, England.
