Disney+ has added all 52 episodes of Campeones: Hacia el Mundial to its streaming library, giving subscribers the chance to revisit or discover the classic soccer anime for the first time. The series became available on July 29.
The show originally premiered in Japan in October 2001, timed to build on anticipation for the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup. It follows the story after the original anime, depicting the main characters as they enter professional football.
The series centers on Oliver Atom, who joins a club and must compete for a place against established stars. Mark Lenders also features, having signed for Italian side Piemonte FC. The two eventually reunite with their teammates as they prepare to represent Japan at the World Cup.
The addition is part of a broader push by Disney+ to grow its anime offerings. The platform recently announced Daemons of the Shadow Realm, an adaptation of a work by Hiromu Arakawa, the creator of Fullmetal Alchemist.
