King Charles and Queen Camilla are royals in first Christmas card: photo



King Charles III and his wife, the queen consort Camilla Parker Bowles, released his first Christmas card since becoming the reigning monarch. The King, 74, and Camilla, 75, looked regal in the elegant portrait taken by Sam Hussein at the Braemar Royal Highland Gathering on 3 September. Queen Elizabeth 96 years old on September 8, 2022. “Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year”, reads a message inside the card, placed in front of a Christmas tree at Clarence House in London, in red characters. The card was also posted on the royal family’s Instagram account along with a message reading: “We are delighted to share this year’s Christmas card from the King and Queen consort.”

In the photo the King looks straight ahead seen from the side and smiling. He wore a beige blazer and white shirt, along with a black and green striped tea set ready for the holiday season. Meanwhile, Camilla is seen eyeing her husband of 17 years in a green suit with red accents and a matching green hat. She also wore pearl earrings, reminiscent of the ones her late mother-in-law wore regularly.

King Charles was in attendance at the event to celebrate the opening of Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee Arch, cutting a rope to mark the occasion which also included a number of competitions including tug of war.

The former Prince of Wales became King Charles III of the United Kingdom and 14 other Commonwealth realms on 8 September 2022, following the death of his mother, who spent 70 years on the throne. Notably, Charles has yet to be officially crowned, however a date has been set for the historic ceremony on Saturday 6 May at Westminster Abbey. The event is reported as an abbreviated version, as Charles attempts to modernize the monarchy. In a statement, Buckingham Palace said the event would be “rooted in long-standing traditions” but would also “reflect the role of the monarch today and look to the future”. Specific details for the coronation, dubbed Operation Golden Orb, have yet to be confirmed.
