WHAT IS AN APRAXIA OF LANGUAGE?

Apraxia of speech is a motor language disorder that makes speaking difficult.

This disorder can make speaking the right sounds and words very difficult and can be perceived as slurred.

It is caused by damage to the parts of the brain that control muscle movement, leading to apraxia of speech.

“By sharing my story, it will hopefully raise awareness and also help people who may also be living with this disease by showing them that there are ways to deal with it and still live a fulfilling life.”

Chris Kamara: Lost for Words was created for ITV by Triple Brew Media, part of All3Media’s Objective Media Group.

Triple Brew Media’s Ben Shephard added: “This is an important story to tell. As a close friend and colleague of Kammy’s, I have seen firsthand the challenges he has faced since his diagnosis.

“Kammy has always been a great role model for so many people and with this program we hope to shed light on AOS, raise awareness, but also bring hope to those who may also be living with apraxia. I am honored that Kammy trusted Triple Brew Media to follow his personal life journey with Apraxia of Speech (AOS).’

Paula Thomas Gallie, Commissioning Editor, Entertainment, ITV, said: “We are honored that Chris can share his own personal experience with us following his recently diagnosed apraxia of speech.

“A relatively unknown condition, he will speak freely about the difficulties he has faced and what the future holds for him in the hope of helping others who have had similar experiences.”
