Pawel Mykietyn admits he loved the “crazy” thing of composing music for a walking donkey in Polish Oscar entry EO – Sound and Screen

How to record music for a stray donkey E.O? The composer Pawel Mykietyn did not take the responsibility lightly.

“First of all, this donkey survived,” the Polish composer told the audience through an interpreter at Deadline’s seasonal Sound & Screen awards event. “I hope I don’t interrupt the film with music. … Sometimes it’s hard to know how a donkey feels.”

EO, by Polish veteran Jerzy Skolimowski and submitted by Poland in this year’s Oscar International Feature Race, is a vision of modern Europe seen through the eyes of a beloved mule. “In the film, the donkey is in many different places, the donkey meets different people,” said Mykietyn. “There are different situations, some tragic, some funny. I tried to follow the situation, follow the emotions… add some color.”

“It’s crazy,” added Mykietyn, whose other credits include 2010 Necessary murder and that from 2015 11 minutes. “But I like that kind of storytelling, that kind of art.”

E.O presented by Skopia Film and Jeremy Thomas with Sandra Drzymalska, Isabelle Huppert, Lorenzo Zurzolo and Mateusz Kosciukiewicz. Jeremy Thomas is the executive producer. The script was written by Ewa Piaskowska and Jerzy Skolimowski.
