Jane Fonda said her passion for activism had an impact on her family life.
Jane – who has children Mary, 55, Vanessa, 54, and Troy, 49 – said she was often removed from parenting because of her responsibilities. Mary was adopted by Fonda and Tom Hayden. Vanessa’s father is Barbarella director Roger Vadim. And Troy is Jane’s son with Tom.
“I think about motherhood every day. It’s the most important thing about my past that I think about almost every day,” she began.

“And I tell you one of the things that tops everything is looking at my 47-year-old son. They just had their first child and he is about a year and a half. And when I look at my son and his wife Simone, I am amazed,” she said.
“It gives me such a great relief that I didn’t do it. I don’t think I told him that so I feel a bit weird but it’s the reality anyway,’ added the Grace And Frankie star.
“When I see how my son is a parent, I think, ‘God, I wish I had done that. And then I realize if I had done that, I wouldn’t have become who I have become.’

She said she hopes to become an “example” to young people.
The Hollywood star celebrates her 85th birthday on December 21, and Jane encouraged young people not to be afraid of getting old.
“I had a good life. I have lived a productive and purposeful life. And I knew I couldn’t make it any longer than it was going to be, but I could make it wider and deeper. And I did. I feel that way,” she said.

“I hope I can be a role model for young people so that they are not afraid of getting older.”
Known for her environmental activism, Jane is determined to do whatever it takes to stop climate change.
Speaking to PEOPLE, she explained, “It’s going to be hard for young people and I just want my kids to know and my grandkids to know that I did my best.”
Meanwhile, Jane previously admitted she was “too busy” with her activism in her early years.
