Letizia’s feminist salute to the Spanish ambassador to the US: “Give me your hand like a man”

Queen Letizia landed in New York last Tuesday and has already met Jill Biden and has coincided with Rania from Jordan. However, the meeting with the Spanish Ambassador to the United States, Santiago Cabanas, has become the protagonist of his official tour of the city. Last Wednesday, Doña Letizia greeted the ambassador with a surprising sentence: “Give me your hand like a man”. A moment that has left no one indifferent and in which Felipe’s wife played very naturally. The meeting between the two took place in the context of World Cancer Research Day.

It’s not the first time they’ve coincided, but it’s without a doubt the most remembered to date for the Queen’s curious greeting. Letizia starred in some very spontaneous moments that have occupied several covers, the first of which was The Day posed for the media and announced the upcoming “yes, I want” with the then prince. It was the year 2003 when Letizia and Felipe walked hand in hand through the gardens of the Palacio de El Pardo, smiling and happily posing for the photographers wearing an engagement ring. The future princess wore white fitted trousers, with a light blue tint, signed by Armani, which she paired with black shoes. At his side appeared the Prince of Asturias in a blue suit and matching tie. Don Felipe proudly showed his girlfriend’s gift: “It’s sapphires and gold cufflinks,” he explained with a laugh.

The young couple approached the journalists’ microphones and Letizia explained to her former colleagues that she would gradually withdraw from what had been her profession. “As of today it is clear that it is a turning point in the work that I have followed so far, it would be desirable that my separation from TVE goes gradually, not immediately,” he explained with some regret, as it was a passion for journalism. The future princess spoke further and the prince wanted to intervene and interrupt her, something she spontaneously wanted to avoid: “let me finish”. Two words that made her future husband and journalists laugh, and which would mark a before and after in the image of Letizia Ortiz. Although Felipe took it with humor, there were many who criticized the attitude of the future princess of Asturias.

But without a doubt, Letizia’s awkward moment is par excellence: the scuffle in which he played with his mother-in-law. Just over four years ago, Doña Sofía and her daughter-in-law had a tense moment in Mallorca’s cathedral. The family left the place smiling when Don Felipe’s mother took her granddaughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia, to have their picture taken with them. However, Letizia decides to frustrate her photo attempt by standing in front of the three, preventing the media from capturing the tender image of a grandmother and her granddaughters. At that moment, the eldest of the kings of Spain gives a small blow to her grandmother in an attempt to remove the hand she had placed on her shoulder.

Don Juan Carlos and his son Felipe realize the situation and try to calm things down between daughter-in-law and mother-in-law, but it was getting late and the media repeated the scuffle. The majority sided with Doña Sofía, considering the behavior of her son’s wife intolerable. Although four years have passed, the moment has been captured forever, something Doña Letizia will not like. Shortly afterwards, in an attempt to clean up the image of the Spanish royal family, the Queen and the Emeritus made a small paripé trying to show the world the good harmony between them, which is very hard to believe given the recent events. . Since then, good or bad get along, tried their best to appear on good terms in public although many do not believe that this is the reality behind closed doors.
