
Andrew Garfield’s latest film was not well received by the public when it aired at the Venice Film Festival in 2020, with viewers leaving the cinema during the film.
Hollywood star Andrew Garfield’s latest film, Mainstream, is now available in the UK.
Although when the film premiered at the 2020 Venice Film Festival, viewers were little impressed, prompting some to leave the theater.
The comedy-drama centers on a character named Frankie, played by Maya Hawke, a struggling Hollywood director.
After meeting a charismatic stranger named Link, played by Garfield, they finally find success.
A synopsis of the film reads: “In this cautionary tale, three people struggle to maintain their identity as they form an eccentric love triangle in the rapidly changing Internet age.”

Directed by Gia Coppola, the film offers a satirical look at the phenomenon of online celebrities.
Though the 1.5-hour film hasn’t pleased everyone since, second the independent, some of the people watching left the theater when it aired at the 2020 Venice Film Festival.
Andrew’s character Link was criticized in a review for IndieWire as they called him “one of the most heinous in history”.
The character has also been described as “Val Kilmer’s Jim Morrison’s grotesque love son in Joaquin Phoenix’s The Doors and Joker”.

The film’s critics haven’t fared much better Variety or as it was called “a messy and childish film”.
They also called Andrew’s character “an unstable young man who messes with his friends with the hateful omnipotent asshole ruthlessly obsessed with escalating numbers.”
His character was also called “absolute key” by Time as they said viewers will mostly want to hit it.
In the review it was written: “She is the male equivalent of Manic Pixie Dream Girl (think Zooey Deschanel in 500 days of summer ) and you will especially want to hit it.

YouTubers Jake Paul and Patrick Starrr also appeared in the film.
After the reviews, it seems that many people weren’t impressed with the film after it was released in the US in 2021.
On IMDB, it has a rating of 4.9 and an even lower rating on Rotten Tomatoes with only 33% on the review aggregator.
Although it has a slightly higher audience score of 43%.
Brits can now watch the film to see if they share a different opinion from critics, as it’s available to buy on Prime Video for £ 7.99.
