Stephen King has long been a brand and his books can be found in almost every bookstore.
But there is one exception – a novel that the author personally demanded to remove from the sale and remove it from the press forever. To the ban it was reprinted for decades, but not since 1998 – not a page. And King himself believes that this was an absolutely correct decision.
It is about the book “Rage”, published in 1977 under the pseudonym Richard Bakhman. The plot is the story of a teenager who comes to school with weapons, kills the teacher and hostage the whole class. The novel was written by King in his youth, in 1965, but was only published later – when the name of the author was already cult.

For a long time “anger” remained on the shelves, especially in the collection The Bachman BookBut in the late 90s the novel began to be indicated as one of the alarming elements in a series of tragic events in the United States.
Especially after the incident in Kentukki, when the teenager shot at school, and in his locker, according to media reports, a copy of the book was found.
King eventually turned to the publisher with a request to stop reprints. The formulation was immediately:
“This must be removed from the press. This book should no longer exist.”
Since then, the novel has not been published in any form. Old specimens sometimes appear at auctions, but there will be no new problems – by the will of the author himself.
King later commented more than once on his decision. In the preface of the novel “Flame” (Blaze, 2007) he wrote: “Now it is not spent. And that’s right.”
And in one of the public lectures, he added: “I am not sure if it was my book that someone provoked, but if there is even the least chance, I don’t want to take any risks.”
Against the background of dozens of other loud, gloomy and terrifying works by King, “Fury” may remain his only book he chose to forget.
