At first glance – nothing unusual. The poster with a smiling toaster looks like a typical video cassette cover from the 80s: a cartoon for children, with striking household appliances and a good end.

But as soon as one of the audience of those years to see this cassette on a flea market and horror flashes in his eyes. Because those who have hired the “brave small toaster” in childhood due to naivety still cannot forget what they saw there.

Officially this is a story about a toaster, an electric blanket, a lamp and a vacuum cleaner that goes looking for their owner. The plot sounds like a “story of toys” – and this is no coincidence: John Lasseter, the future director of Toy Story, offered this Disney project, but was fired. Many of those who later founded Pixar worked on the film. Only now did the output show no moving cartoon, but a frankly nightmare with the G. rating.

In the “Toy Stories 3” there was an episode in which heroes fall into a waste collection. But there is a climax. The “Brave Little Toaster” is ranked differently: it seems to consist entirely of such scenes.

Here are only a small part of what the heroes experience:

  • The electric deed was blown away with a storm and the entire company almost dies from the waterfall.
  • The vacuum cleaner with the last forces saves them, and then his lifeless body must be dragged through a liquid moor shaft.
  • They are ‘stored’ by the buyer of scrap, who is trying to distinguish one of them in details for the others.
  • After reaching the owner, the heroes are confronted with his new technology, which she throws in a garbage can.
  • Then – the climax in the landfill: a huge magnet drags the heroes to the press, the owner runs the risk of death and in the last turmer the gear rushes to stop the breaker at the expense of his own life.

And yes, they then repair boosters. But what is the reassuring moment for the child, which has looked for 90 minutes, how do household appliances go through nightmares about falling apart?

“The cartoon is by no means flash – there are several points if I want to cry, sometimes I became very scary when viewing,” writes one of the users in Kinopoisk.

The brave little tack went in history as the first animation film at the Sandance Festival. He became a harbinger of gloomy projects such as “Land before the beginning of time” and set the tone of more adult animation. But for most he will forever remain the same Disney cartoon, after which I did not want to switch on the iron for a long time.
