Ewan McGregor reveals he auditioned for the role of his daughter Esther in Obi-Wan Kenobi

Ewan McGregor revealed that his daughter Esther auditioned for the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi while promoting on a talk show this Wednesday.

While the 51-year-old Scottish actor was promoting the Disney+ series on The Late Late Show With James Corden, the 20-year-old actress said her daughter Esther wasn’t holding the strings as executive producer and executive producer.

“I’m sure everyone thinks they got the job because of me, but not him,” Ewan said. “She auditioned for the role.”

Ewan said it was the director of the Disney+ series who told him about Esther, not the other way around.

“The wonderful director Deb said to me, ‘I found this amazing girl, but apparently she’s your daughter. Are you happy with it?” Ewan said. “I told you it would be great.”

“It was incredible,” Ewan said. “You don’t really know with your kids until that moment when I played with it, and that was very normal and natural.”

Ewan said that his 26-year-old daughter, Clara, is also an actress and they are shooting a movie together.

“Clara met Ruby, who is a great writer, and she wrote a sort of movie about me, about her and our experience over the past five years, and Clara’s experience with addiction,” Ewan said. He wrote this movie in which we both play father-daughter roles.

“It was the most extraordinary situation ever,” Ewan said. “Very personal and nice.”

Ewan also said that he formed a close bond with a camel named Silus while filming the series for Disney+.

“I literally wrote a blue-painted gym horse in the original movies,” Ewan said.

“This time I had a real camel named Silus and a trainer named Titus. He was a nice guy and he always called me a cowboy, which I liked a lot. As Scots, we’re not often called cowboys,” he said with a chuckle.

Ewan said he was considering adopting the camel, saying he was retired but had a small baby and thought he had enough on his plate at the time.
