Former Take That singer Robbie Williams has revealed that he has submitted his name for next year’s Eurovision Song Contest, but that’s not quite what you think.
Robbie Williams threw his hat in the ring for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.
The Let Me Entertain You singer said he put his name “on top” after this year’s event, in which British voice Sam Ryder stormed the contest and finished second.
Fans shouldn’t be too excited because Robbie isn’t interested in competing in the British competition.
Instead, he wants to stage an intermission show during the ceremony.
So it looks like the Take That idol won’t face the dreaded “zero points” that have plagued many Eurovision wannabes over the years.
The mirror he quoted it saying, “I have already offered my name, not for the UK but for the interval.”
“I thought, I’ll take some,” he continued.
“Nobody did it until Justin Timberlake and Madonna did it. I thought, I want to do it like these people. So I put my name on it. “
Robbie, 48, said he was ready to participate if the competition was held in Ukraine next year.
This year it was won by the Kalush Orchestra of the country and it is traditional for the ceremony to be moved to the country of the previous year’s winning act.
“I heard it might be in Ukraine, but I think to myself, I’ll go anyway!” Robbie said.
The star added that he is a huge fan of the contest.
The Kalush Orchestra was a favorite to win this year with their catchy song Stefania and took home the coveted title of the night.
Russia did not participate in this year’s singing competition due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
In February, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) said it believed that Russia’s participation in the 2022 event, held in Turin, would “discredit the competition”.
Second place for Sam Ryder brought great glory to the UK after several years of disappointing results.
