Box office revenues are one of the most important indicators of a film’s success; it is thanks to them that studios understand which films the audience is more willing to go to the cinema to see, and what they are willing to spend time and money on. It is not for nothing that the expression “The viewer votes with his ruble” exists.
This year saw the release of many films that surprised film analysts with their box office returns – few expected such a resounding success from Alien: Romulus, directed by Fede Alvarez. However, it still managed to become one of the top ten highest-grossing films of 2024. What other films are on this list?
We’ve collected the 10 highest-grossing films of 2024 and ranked them in ascending order of their worldwide box office gross.
The highest grossing film to date is still ‘Inside Out 2’, which has grossed over 1.5 billion dollars worldwide. It is confidently followed by “Deadpool and Wolverine” – around 380 million, and it will overtake the highest grossing cartoon.
The fourth installment of the Despicable Me franchise also did well at the box office, grossing almost $950 million worldwide, despite a budget of just $100 million! And while the film’s rating on Kinopoisk is average, only 6.5 out of 10, it doesn’t diminish the worldwide love for funny minions.
Another interesting observation: if you look closely at this top ten of highest grossing films, you will see that all the films are sequels and parts of already known franchises. Viewers vote with rubles on what they know and love.
