What other “Soul Collector”? There’s something scarier than Nicolas Cage’s acting.

Korean cinema has become a phenomenon in recent years, and horror films are no exception. Korean horror films are known for their unique approach to scares: they not only strike fear with unexpected moments, but create an atmosphere of psychological tension that keeps viewers on edge even after the credits have rolled.

We’ve rounded up 15 Korean horror movies that are, without exaggeration, scarier than many Hollywood films. Try watching them at night with the lights off – if you dare, of course.

One of the most recent films in our selection is the horror film ‘Sleep’ by director Yoo Jae-sung. He is a former assistant of Bong Joon-ho (director of “Parasite”), who worked with him on the production of “Okja”. And the director himself welcomed the debut of the student and promoted ‘Sleep’ in every possible way. But that is not the point now.

This might be the most… cozy horror movie you’ve ever seen. That doesn’t mean it won’t be scary – it just means you’ll be scared by the most mundane and even, to some extent, atmospheric things. You definitely shouldn’t expect screams and monsters – here, the tension is built up solely by the interaction of the main characters within four walls. The acting and the chemistry between Lee Sung-kyun and Jung Yu-mi are top-notch – which is no surprise since this is their fourth collaboration.

And yes, fans of ‘Parasite’ will certainly find some similarities in ‘Sleep’ – but this isn’t a direct copy, but rather an homage.
