Seriously, no one asked for a Beetlejuice sequel.
Tim Burton is a true legend in the world of gothic cinema. His films are easily recognizable by their distinctive style, theme and, let’s be honest, even the casting (we say hello to the eternal duet of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter). His latest work is ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’, which, as you might guess, is a sequel to the first ‘Beetlejuice’. Many are skeptical about the new product: someone hoped that Burton would at least not parasitize on old stories, but focus on the new ones (the same “Wednesday”, at worst!).
Especially for those who long for the past, we’ve collected the 10 best Tim Burton films – make yourself comfortable, we’re having a nostalgia marathon.
Despite the skepticism, ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ is holding up well so far, with the new film having already grossed over $150 million in theaters worldwide. The sequel is also sitting pretty on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 76% critics’ rating and an even more impressive 82% audience approval rating.
Anyone who misses Jenna Ortega in ‘Wednesday’ can still watch ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’: the young star has clearly become Tim Burton’s new muse, because she also plays an active role in the sequel. Old-school fans will certainly be happy to see the charismatic antihero Michael Keaton again.
There’s little to compare to Burton’s good old work, though: even those who enjoyed the sequel say they liked the first film better.
